Kenya Birdwatching Safaris

This itinerary seeks to introduce you to Kenya’s Important Bird Areas. Starting with the species found around the compound of your hotel to the very remote parts of our country.

Day 1: Nairobi

Nairobi hosts a remarkable diversity of birds and you will be able to see many different species just by walking around the hotels’ grounds.

Day 2: Nairobi - Lake Naivasha

After breakfast we drive down to Lake Naivasha which is the highest fresh water lake in the Great Rift Valley. We take the old road down the escarpment passing Susua and Longonot, two dormant volcanoes. In the afternoon we will take a walk along the shores of Lake Naivasha enjoying the Papyrus Swamps and the masses of water birds. You will be amazed at how many birds you can see around Lake Naivasha. Overnight L. Naivasha Lodge

Days 3 & 4 : L. Naivasha - L. Nakuru National Park

An early morning boat ride on Lake Naivasha seeing more species. Breakfast at the lodge and then depart for Lake Nakuru National Park which is internationally famous for its populations of Lesser Flamingo and Pelicans. Game viewing and birdwatching in Lake Nakuru National Park is out of this world.
Overnight a the L. Nakuru Lodge

Days 5, 6 & 7: L. Nakuru – Kakamega Forest

Wake up early and leave for Kakamega Forest. Kakamega , is a mid-altitude tropical rain forest that is home to many West African birds found nowhere else in Kenya. Rondo Retreat is a cute lodge settled in lovely gardens from which you can spot most of Kakamegas’ rich bird-life and monkeys. Overnight at the Rondo Retreat.

Days 8 & 9

Today we drive through the Kerio Valley with a picnic en route, spotting the Brown Parrot, White-crested Turaco and possibly the Boran Cisticola. Arrive at Lake Baringo and take a boat across to Island Camp. With Over 500 species of birds recorded this is a popular area for birders. An early morning boat ride the following morning on the lake looking for birds, Hippo and Crocodile. Relax through the day and take an evening bird walk on the island. Overnight Island Camp/L. Days: 10-12

This morning we drive to the Masai Mara. World famous for its wildlife, but birdlife here is very vibrant. Overnight at the Keekorok lodge.

Day: 13

Drive back to Nairobi for shopping, farewell dinner and later transfer to the Airport for your flight back home.
